Crafting Connections - The Story Behind the RT Studio Adaptation with Ploenchan Vinyaratn
At the heart of Tactile Vernacular Hospitality lies the vision of Ploenchan Vinyaratn (Mook V). A designer deeply committed to sustainability and traditional craftsmanship, Mook brings a unique perspective to Royal Thai and RT Studio. Her impressive five-year tenure as Design Director at Nae Fah Luang (now Doi Tung) allowed her to collaborate closely with Thailand’s Hill Tribes, blending modern design principles with ancient weaving traditions.
Through RT Studio, our bespoke residential arm, Mook's artistry found a new platform. Her work embodies the spirit of collaboration that Royal Thai champions, bridging the worlds of artisanal heritage and cutting-edge design. This partnership perfectly illustrates why Royal Thai wanted to adapt Mook's original RT Studio Collection, to celebrate the synonymous artistry of the Hill Tribe people and our artisans, creating a space where luxury intertwines with art, in homes or commercial spaces.
TACTILE VERNACULAR - WHERE HERITAGE MEETS INNOVATION
Under Mook’s creative direction, Tactile Vernacular Hospitality becomes a dialogue between tradition and innovation. Her hands-on approach—working directly in our factory with the design and production teams—ensures a seamless blend of craftsmanship and modernity.
The collection celebrates the rich language of weaving, much like the Hill Tribe techniques Mook learned and refined. Each piece communicates through texture and form, honoring the skill of our artisans while providing luxurious, custom solutions for hospitality spaces. The collaborative process behind Tactile Vernacular involved designers worldwide, all guided by Mook’s vision, making it a global narrative with deeply rooted Thai origins.
THE MASTERPIECE - MOOK V’S LEGACY IN EVERY THREAD
At the core of the collection is The Masterpiece, a magnum opus reflecting Mook’s design philosophy. This extraordinary piece combines sustainability and artistry, using over 72 colors of leftover yarns and requiring 470 hours of meticulous craftsmanship.
What makes The Masterpiece exceptional is its innovative needlepoint technique, weaving from front to back, creating a 360-degree design. It incorporates elements from every part of the collection, symbolizing Mook’s belief in storytelling through design. This piece is not just a product; it’s a narrative woven into every thread, a true testament to Mook’s dedication and the collective talent at Royal Thai.
